He had one coin left. He was hungry and exhausted .His mother was very ill, and his father had passed away when he was very young.so it was up to him to support the family and earn enough money for school
He decided he would ask for a meal at the next house. However , he lost his nerve when a young woman opened the door. Instead of a meal , he only asked for a drink of water
The woman realized the boy was hungry, so she brought him a glass of milk and some cookies .He drank it slowly, and then asked ."How much do I owe you?" "You don`t owe me anything, "she replied ."Mother has taught me not to accept pay for a kindness"
.He said ,"then I thank you from my heart ."As Howard Kelly left that house, his faith in God and man was strong
Years later that young woman became critically ill. The local doctors were confused .They finally sent her to a big city where they called in specialists to study her disease. D r .Howard Kelly was called in for consultation. When he heard the name of the town the woman was from, a strange light filled his eyes. Immediately he went to the hospital to examine the patient
Dressed in his doctor`s gown, he went in to see her.The same kind woman was in bed.He recognized her at once. He went back to the consultation room,determined to do his best to save her life. From that day he gave special attention to her case.Luckily,after a long struggle,the battle was won ,and the woman was cured.On day the woman was to leave the hospital,Dr.Kelly looked at the bill, and then wrote something on it
The bill was sent to the woman`s room.The woman feared to open it because she had stayed in the hospital for long time,and she was sure it would take the rest of her life to pay for the bill.Finally ,she opened it,but a sentence caught her attention on the side of the bill
